The Conservation Volunteers

We have over 50 years’ experience of practical conservation, and is one of the leading providers of training in practical conservation skills. Training is an important part of every volunteering activity, whether run locally or through the national ‘Natural Breaks’ programme. Learning whilst doing has always been an important concept for us, and all our activities include a training element.

In addition, specialist courses in fencing and many other skills are available. Enquire through your nearest office for details of courses in your area, or visit www.tcv.org.uk or call Customer Services on 01302 833338.

Experience and training in practical conservation skills, including fencing, gained through volunteering can lead towards the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) or Scottish Vocational Qualification in Environmental Conservation.

Lantra

Lantra is the national training authority for the land-based sector. The National Fencing Training Authority, which operates through Lantra Awards, is an accredited awarding body for the NVQ/SVQ in Fence Erection.

Lantra Awards also operate Sector Schemes which specify the training that operatives in the highways and other industries must receive to ensure that they work safely and to the highest standards. Sector Schemes include General Fencing and Vehicle Restraint Systems.

Sector Schemes are linked to NVQs through the Fencing Industry Skills Scheme (FISS) which encourages operatives who have received Sector Scheme training and assessment to progress to the NVQ/SVQ in Fence Erection.
