Although it’s impossible to give an exact figure, it’s estimated that there are more than 40 billion trees in the world, with Russia and Brazil being the most forested areas.
There are over 100 species of tree in the UK and over 10,000 different species worldwide!
Trees are generally split into two categories, deciduous and coniferous trees.
Deciduous trees have generally broad, flat leaves that fall in the autumn. They include varieties such as birch and maple.
Coniferous trees have sharp, needle-like leaves. They are almost all evergreen and do not shed their leaves throughout the autumn. Species such as pines, firs and cedars are conifers.
