Materials for making a wind streamer
Some of the materials for making a wind streamer

How to make your wind streamer/fish kite

  1. Cut a strip of card about 3cm wide and 20cm long.
  2. Form the card into a circle and staple (or stick).
  3. Roll some paper around the card circle to form a cylinder and secure with tape, glue or staples.
The body ready for the streamers to be attached
  • Attach some string (about 60-90cm) to the card end of the cylinder in a loop. You could use a hole punch to make two holes to tie the string through.
  • Cut more paper (your choice of colours) into strips around 2 or 3cm in width and as long as you want (probably no more than 60cm, but it depends on your paper).
  • Take strips of your paper and stick them around the bottom end of your cylinder. Use a stapler, glue or sticky tape to fix them in place.
  • Decorate your wind streamers using whatever you have to hand. We used pipe cleaners and googly eyes!
  • Attach your string loop to your stick and you’re ready to go!
Ready to fly!

Take your wind streamers outside and watch them fly in the wind. If there’s no wind, simply run around.

See what shapes you can create with your wind streamer.

We had enough wind, but it didn’t stop some of us running around!
