You may already have a clear idea of your project, or you may be a group of people looking to become involved in environmental work. In either case, the first step is to establish your aims. There are a wide range of reasons for undertaking practical environmental work or projects with an environmental theme:

  • creating green space for people or wildlife
  • enhancing the wildlife value of the area
  • making the place look better
  • education
  • awareness raising
  • community development
  • creating community pride
  • growing food
  • reducing pollution
  • improving health
  • training in job skills
  • social reasons
  • personal development
